RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING

Recognition of Prior Learning and Recognition of Current Competencies are examples of the different types of evidence that may apply to the course that you are undertaking.  These may be in the form of:

FORMAL QUALIFICATIONS
(Certificate/Statement of Attainment from other RTO’s)

LIFE EXPERIENCES

WORK HISTORY

Please speak to your tutor or the staff at Camden Haven Community College if you feel you may be eligible to gain RPL or RCC, and we will advise you of the process required.  This process is also designed to minimise your costs and your time on the course.

PROCEDURES

  1. Students will be advised that Recognition of Prior Learning is available through: the brochure; the Student Information Sheet; verbally by staff.

  2. In general, staff will use the total cost of the course as a guide when responding to enquiries about the cost of RPL. Variations on the cost may be negotiated by the Manager/RPL Assessor, governed by the extent of the application.

  3. Students who request an RPL assessment will need to arrange and pay for an initial interview to: explain the evidence required, suggest how to collate the evidence; explain the process; identify costs. The interview will:

    a) Provide RPL assessor with  RPL interview schedule/RPL assessment record and support documentation.
    b) Provide a supportive environment for applicant to present their case.
    c) Examine documented evidence against the specified learning outcomes and/or elements of competency.
    d) Ask questions to identify prior learning experience against the specified learning outcomes and/or elements of competency.
    e) Record details of evidence provided by applicant on  RPL interview schedule and RPL assessment record.

  4. RPL Assessment will be conducted by a trained RPL Assessor.

  5. Where the RPL Assessor does not have qualifications equal to or higher in the content of the application, consultation will be sought with a suitably qualified person.

  6. The student will be advised within 2 working weeks of the outcome of the RPL process.

  7. If the student is not satisfied with the outcome, the matter will be referred to the Manager/Vet Officer for an independent evaluation and review of the evidence and process.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is available on all Vocational Education Training (VET) courses for the full Certificate or individual Units of Competency.

Costs for RPL are available by discussion with the College. The cost of RPL varies according to your application. It may be the same as the cost by other delivery, or less if College assessment time is rediced by a thorough, well-presented RPL application.

CREDIT TRANSFER

Any ‘Statement of Attainment’ gained from a current valid qualification will receive a Credit Transfer and will not incur a cost to the student.

(The original certificate must be produced for sighting and copying)
