CAMDEN HEAD PILOT STATION

Camden Haven Community College Inc. is the Reserve Trust Manager of
The Camden Head Pilot Station which has been refurbished to become:
a temporary place of residence for artists and writers,
holiday accommodation,
an Environmental Education Centre and
a community facility.
It is located near Laurieton on the mid-north coast of New South Wales, Australia, and it occupies a magnificent beachfront site overlooking Pilot and Wash House Beaches and the entrance to The Camden Haven Inlet. The site is adjacent to Kattang Nature Reserve, noted for its spectacular coastline and marine environment, and its wildflowers and birds.
The Pilot Station operated between 1890 and 1975 and is heritage listed as ‘a rare surviving intact group of buildings which provides physical evidence of the living and working conditions of the pilot and boatmen’. The original 1907 Pilot’s residence was destroyed by fire and the current residence built in 1950.
It was refurbished in 2001-2002 with assistance from State and Local Government. Camden Haven Community College is Reserve Trust Manager for the Pilot Station property and land.
The Pilot Station hosts the annual Australia Council CCD Artist's Residency and, in October 2003, hosted the inaugural Watermark International Nature Writers' Muster, an event where literature enthusiasts, writers, thinkers and community leaders gathered to celebrate literature and the environment.
